Branding: WASMUN
WAS·MUN noun Washington State Model United Nations
Beginning in 2013, I had the opportunity to pilot the branding for WASMUN. My approach to these sorts of project has always been experimenting and eagerly looking for tutorials and inspiration from a wide variety of resources. I launched the new logo for the conference in 2013, hoping to preserve consistency for future conferences. I was their 'Creative Director' from 2013-2015.
What is WASMUN?
Washington State Model United Nations is the largest conference for high school students in the Pacific Northwest region. Every year, it attracts roughly 150-200 delegates and continues to grow every year. It serves as a platform for students to learn about international politics and current issues. It also aims to equip students with skills in public speaking and researching.
What the Project Entails:
WASMUN never had a brand that was consistent throughout the years. It did not even have a very attractive website (I believe it was built off the WordPress or BlogSpot platform). Hence, my role was to develop and establish a consistent and recognisable image to represent the conference.
END GOALS:
Aside from the logo, I also orchestrated all conference materials including marketing and promotional deliverables and a delegate handbook to be distributed during the conference which can be accessed below.
Placards were also designed for delegates and staff to be used throughout the conference. On the back of the placards includes some basic and most frequently used rules and procedures to help guide confused conference attendees - also know as delegates.
WASMUN 2014
For the WASMUN 2014, I also designed the background guides. The aim is to really creating visually stimulating products to attract students and increase their willingness to learn more about the conference.
Later in a UX design course that I took, I conducted several user interviews, users indicate that the design of website or conference materials really help allow them to become more engaged and interested in the conference.

WASMUN 2015
For the background guides, I experimented a little with typography. I decided to go simple with Helvetica. Helvetica is almost like the only font that doesn't look terribly elongated bolded and condensed. I strayed away from Gotham because I use it way too often! None the less, 'background guide' is still in Gotham to preserve

For the logo specifically, I decided to invert it to make it more compatible when being placed on conference materials such as background guides. I truly believe that it helps the logo blend in with its surroundings more, while preserving the shapes that created the mountains. I shredded the text because it has deemed to be unnecessary when the full conference name is showcased on the bottom.
